Our own Dr. Michael Heberling gave us a lot of reasons to stop complaining and enjoy the 21st century. A comprehensive look at the year 1900 and how things were back in the not-so-good old days reveals, among other things: Life expectancy was age 44. Only 3% of American homes had electricity. Pollution was worse than now: the country had 20.5 million horses; in NY city, horses generated 5 million lbs of manure per day, which was disposed of by dumping in the river!
