2013 Grant Recipients
12 Organizations received grants from The Flint Sunrise Rotary Club at the June 12, 2013 meeting. The organizations and their plans for the grant include:
Autism Support and Resource Center enhances the quality of life and provides support and empowerment to families and individuals with autism through all phases of life. They will use the grant for monthly autism socials and programs.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is the largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the U.S. A leader in one-to-one youth service developing positive relationships that impact the lives of young people ages 6-18. They will use the grant for their summer reading rewards for a better future program.
Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint is a safe place to learn, grow, and have fun benefiting children ages 7-17 socially, physically, economically, and educationally building a foundation for future success. They will use the grant for several summer programs like baseball serving 350 plus kids a day.
Flint Eastside Compassionate Mission exists to make life better for all the people of Flint’s eastside by bringing available resources to those in need, up-lifting people with people. They will use the grant for their annual back to school bash by providing backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, and games to the families in need.
Flint Public Library serves residents and the surrounding area as an important community gathering place for local history, research collections, author visits, lectures, and great books to read. They will use the grant for their summer reading program, “Dig into Reading”, with over 1,200 kids.
Hurley Foundation serving as Flint’s only public hospital addressing issues that affect the health and well-being of mid-Michigan residents will use the grant for equipment and positioning aids for critically ill infants at Hurley.
Robert E Weiss Advocacy Center for Children and Youth is to prevent child abuse and help survivors become children again. They provide a safe place for children to tell their stories in a safe, friendly environment. They will use the grant for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Training.
Shelter of Flint helps families find their way home with programs and services with safe, affordable housing to help low income and homeless individuals and families achieve stability and independence. Serving over 1,300 people last year, they will use the grant for summer stability and youth programs.
Tapology where everyone is welcome from beginners to seniors provides excellent training and inspiration for the individual who loves to dance and to tap. They will use the grant for their summer program serving over 100 kids with dance classes, artists, activities, and wrapping up with performances showcasing the talent.
The Salvation Army of Genesee County serves families and individuals with emergency assistance with 2 community centers. They will use the grant for their summer day camp healthy living program serving 50-60 kids with exercise and Zumba classes.
Whaley Children’s Center creates an environment that focuses on positive change and growth, Whaley’s is a source of hope, care, and treatment to Michigan’s abused, neglected, and at risk children and families. Serving over 75 kids a year, they will use the grant to install different levels of lighting, sensory tools and other residential treatment equipment as well as providing bean bag chairs that help the children as they go through therapy.
WOW Community Action creates an atmosphere of collaboration with community partners, to reduce violence by being visible, building relationships, and formulating partnerships that will positively impact our community. They will use the grant for community youth programs, and supportive and informative services for individuals and families.
