The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.  Here are some highlights of how your contributions to the Rotary Foundation were put to work during the 2008-2009 Rotary year (as reflected in the RI Foundation Annual Report):

1.  527 maternal and child health grants awarded for $7,172,184; 2,436 water and sanitation grants awarded for $30,484,779; 2,718 disease prevention and treatment grants awarded for $34,189,400; 2,664 basic education and literacy grants awarded for $28,008,087; 1,625 economic and community development grants awarded for $24,498,464; and 434 peace and conflict prevention/resolution fellowships awarded for $20,460,000.

2.  222,270,331 children were immunized against polio in 22 countires - 17 of them in Africa during the last 10 days of May, 2009.

3.  140 countries have Rotaract clubs, a Rotary supported leadership, professional development, and service club organization for young adults ages 18-30.

4.  8,500 students ages 15-19 studied in 80 countries through the Rotary Youth Exchange program during 2008-2009.  Of those, 71% were long-term exchanges.

5.  More than $90 million has been raised in support of Rotary's US $200 Million Polio Challenge.
