Genesee Health Plan

Linda Hamacher presented an update on the Genesee Health Plan and the results of a 2009 grant from the Greater Flint Sunrise Rotary Club.

A county wide millage supports the Genesee Health Plan (GHP), which provides insurance coverage for those that can't afford a health plan.  GHP is the only plan in the state of this nature that is millage supported.  There are 25,000 adults (ages 19-64) currently enrolled in the plan (with demand just about ready to exceed capacity).

GHP is in the process of developing a dental program and this year received a $600,000 grant from Community Mental Health which has been used to help individuals with mental illness and stress related programs (1200 people have gone through this program so far).

Greater Flint Sunrise Rotary club awarded GHP a $1000 grant in 2009 which they used to educate parents on how to prevent injuries and accidental deaths of their infants and children (via booth participation at the The Flint Journal Parenting Expo).  GHP had numerous demonstrations for parents on child safety and injury prevention and reached over 4,000 parents & children at the expo.
