Why I Became a Rotarian...PP Archie (January 5, 2011)
PP Archie was introduced to Rotary by Dick Spenceley in 1978. At the time,
David Maas was the acting president since Rotary II was in its formative year
and a president had not been elected as yet. PP Archie feels that he joined for
the networking since he knew quite a few people in the club, but he did not know
very much about Rotary. Rotary fulfills him because it is a “do good” organization
and he feels that everyone has a need to do good. It is a selfish organization because
it makes you feel good and you are not concerned about what other people are saying.
In previous years, Rotary had a different philosophy about doing good since only the
persons whose need was met knew about Rotary. It was not publicized as to the good
that Rotary did. To this end, Rotary International decided that Rotary needed to be more
visible and let everyone know what Rotary is all about.
