ADG Cheryl George-Chance called a meeting of Rotary USVI North to coordinate relief efforts for Haiti from our area.
Following are the discussion items reported by President Simon Kevin Caines from the weekend meeting of USVI North which included presidents, past presidents of clubs, the president of the newly formed Rotaract,as well as other persons.

These items will be on the agenda to be discussed at the President's Council meeting on Thursday, January 21, 2010:

  1. Rotary Clubs in USVI North will continue to collect contributions of money from Rotarians and members of the public to assist with the relief effort. Collected monies will be funneled through the account set up at the District level. This will allow resources to get to Rotarians on the ground in Haiti much faster than it would get there if it were sent through the Rotary Foundation.
  2. Rotaract St. Thomas II will take the lead in organizing two community-wide good drop-off days at the Fort Christian Parking Lot. Details about this will also follow.
  3. There was some discussion that while the urgency of the situation in Haiti cannot be overstated, we also need to begin thinking about the country's long-term needs and have to develop a strategy for that.

President Simon reminds us that we "must continue to pray for this country and its people. I cannot imagine a more terrible situation."
