United Way President for St. Thomas-St. John and Rotary II Past President, Cheryl George-Chance, was last week's guest speaker.  She educated Rotarians and guests on United Way's goals and focus for 2007-2008. "I look forward to a very busy and productive year, and with a lot of hard work, we will have yet another successful year at United Way," she said.  She expressed that some of the goals for the 2007-2008 year are to:

-Meet Campaign Goal

-Increase the number of member agencies served

-Increase the number of Venture Grants awarded

-Continue to provide critical funding to member agencies

George-Chance emphasized that United Way continues to work to overcome the many challenges and obstacles encountered while providing its 13 member-agencies with critical financial support, necessary to provide desperately needed human services in the community.  While the demand for these services is greater than ever before, the resources available are often strained or have significantly diminished. "As a United Way volunteer, I understand first hand what matters to our community.  I also realize that people continue to experience events and challenges that are beyond the scope of any one person, organization, corporation, or government to address.  So it is my vision for United Way of St. Thomas-St. John to continue to be at the forefront in building community partnerships that will impact our residents in a positive way.  When we work together, we all reap the benefits," she stated.

George-Chance ended her remarks by thanking the generous and compassionate individuals who continue to make the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John a thriving success on our shores. "Your warm Virgin Islands generosity speaks volumes about your caring and giving hearts," she commented.  Recognition was given to the corporate and major donors who, in spite of economic downturns, continue to embrace the need to support United Way.  She also thanked the Pacesetters for their leadership gift, the working men and women who comprise the employee campaigns at the work place, and all United Way volunteers past and present.  "I always marvel at the remarkable network of 'people helping people' which is displayed whenever our volunteers, donors, and friends come together in support of United Way," she concluded.  To become a United Way volunteer contact the office at 774-3185 or visit the website at www.unitedway.vi.
