DG Diana's Feb. Message

On January 12, 2010, we were shocked by the disaster in Haiti. The response was an immediate outpouring of concern, assistance and funding. We received thousands of communications from Rotarians. They knew our plight, they came to our aid and, unlike some other organisations who considered they knew best what Haiti needed, Rotarians asked us how they could help because they understood that listening to the Rotarians in Haiti and acting upon their recommendation was the way to maximise their resources. 

Surely this is “World Understanding”.

We are uniquely placed to continually consider World Understanding. Each of our island nations enjoys its own culture and character, so as we work together in District 7020 we make a concerted effort to understand each other’s needs and how they may be different from our own.

While this month of February is a time for us to consider what we can do on an international level using the world of Rotary to further relationships with other countries and “Bridging Continents”, it is also an opportunity to celebrate our own international district as we continue “Building Communities” internationally within our District.
