The first Rotary club meeting was 23 February 1905 in Chicago.
Throughout the years, Rotarians have continued to celebrate on 23 February. In 1925, Rotary's first general secretary, Ches Perry, helped dismantle a cake during RI's 20th anniversary celebration in London.
Today, Rotary International is the world's first service club organization. Its more than 1.2 million members volunteer their time and talent to further the Rotary motto, Service Above Self.
