As we start this Rotary Year, I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to thank you for your vote of confidence in choosing me to direct this club as President for the 2008-2009 Rotary Year.  Our theme this year " Make Dreams Real" is truly  an exciting one. According to Rotary International's President, DK Lee, "let's Make Dreams Real by giving children the chance to grow up and have dreams of their own." With that in mind, at the forefront of the many exciting things that we have planned are.. Our Children, they are the most precious resource of every community.  Every child deserves a chance of a healthy life, environment, a wonderful education and the opportunity to live in a happier, healthier, peaceful world.

As we begin to Make Dreams Real, we will provide scholarships for the musically talented whose parents cannot afford to send their children to private lessons.  We will continue to play an integral part at our adopted school Addelita Cancryn Junior High, where we support them in a variety of ways from a career fair, countless and ongoing projects and the ever popular Teacher of the Year Award. This year we will creatively paint a life size mural on campus with the help of the students. This will be a daily visual of our Four Way Test.  Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it bring goodwill and better friendships?  Is it beneficial to all concerned?  These questions will no doubt begin to shape the minds of our students in a positive way, helping them to become better students and model citizens.  We will continue to support our Math Counts Program where we will ignite young minds and prepare them for tomorrow's challenges.

As we work throughout our community, Our R.E.A.C.H. radio program will continue on Radio One as we educate and care for humanity.   Our love for our senior citizens from the Anna's Retreat Home will be a joy to continue as we host them for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  This has been near and dear to our hearts.  We will continue to provide them with a range of services and will introduce them to a physical fitness seminar at their facility encouraging them to move their bodies helping to keep mobile and alert.  Our Soup Kitchen project is something we are all proud of as we prepare hot and healthy meals for our Bethlehem House citizens less fortunate than ourselves. In keeping with our theme and a mandate from our International President, we will spearhead a Child Mortality Prevention Project where we will adopt a "Healthy Family, Healthy Child." We will coach an expectant first time mother and her husband through the entire process of childbirth, sharing with them information and educating them in the entire process of bringing a healthy child into this world.  We will continue to support the Cancer Institute by purchasing a much needed Neo Probe Gamma Detection Device which will be financed through our first matching grant.

Finally in celebrating  our 30th Anniversary of a strong and vibrant club, we will erect a monument at our adopted spot.  The monument will house a bronze plaque with the Rotary Logo and Motto, where all who drive by will be reminded that Rotary is alive and well.  In keeping in line with our District Governor Rupert Ross's mandate of making Rotary more visible in our community, many will agree that Rotary has touched many lives here in these Virgin Islands. So this year with caring hearts, we at Rotary II  are ready, willing and able to Make Dreams Real !
