Council on Legislation: (for complete information, go to
http://www.rotary.org/newsroom/events/col_table.html

The major proposals affecting clubs which have been adopted by the council
are:

1. The attendance requirement of attending 60% of meetings in any 6 months has been changed from 60% to 50%. This does not affect the percentage of meetings to be attended at your own club.
2. Presidents Elect are required to attend the PETS training before taking up office. If any PE has not received this training, the current Club President will be required to continue in office until the training is complete.
3. Alumni of The Rotary Foundation automatically qualify for membership in Rotary but they must have a classification.
4. The board of RI now has the authority to suspend any club which has not paid its District per-capita dues.
5. Per capita dues payable to Rotary International will increase by $3.00 at the rate of $1 per year for three years starting in July 1, 2008
6. An incoming President must be elected at least 18 months prior to taking up office (e.g. by December 2007 the club must have selected and elected the President for the year 2009/2010)
7. The board of RI has the authority to suspend any club failing to fully investigate allegations of a member violating youth protection laws.

Rotary Leadership Institute: (for complete information go to www.rlitraining.org )

RLI courses have been available to all 7020 Rotarians for the past 2 years. During that time, 71 Rotarians from District 7020 have participated in these courses, 31 have graduated (Parts 1,2 & 3) and 17 of these have further qualified as Discussion Leaders. Within St. Thomas-St. John, Rotarians 9 have participated, of which 5 have graduated and 2 have further qualified as Discussion Leaders.

It is the aim of our District to mandate that all incoming Club Presidents graduate from RLI prior to taking up office. Currently, it is necessary to travel to Florida for these courses and in many cases the expense is prohibitive. Consequently, 7020 is working towards bringing trainers and courses into the District and the first seminar is planned for Jamaica in early November.

In the meantime, all Rotarians are encouraged to take these interesting courses which give members a unique opportunity to interact and share ideas with our fellow members from 13 other Districts.

National Immunization Day in India:
The group of volunteer Rotarians from District will be traveling to India early in 2008 to join with Indian Rotarians in a National Immunization Day. They will have the opportunity to take part in a mass distribution of polio  vaccine to thousands of Indian children. This opportunity is open to any Rotarian in the District. If you would like to register you interest in order to receive further information please e-mail Past District Governor John Robertson who is coordinating the visit. Jer_bwa@coralwave.com
