Posted by Michele Downes
As the Rotary Club of St. Thomas II, Disaster chair, and the 2010-11 Disaster Chair for District 7020, let me put in a double whammy request that I ask you to heed. "Be Prepared"... just in case our area experiences any storm surges this season.
COMMUNICATION:
PLEASE SUBMIT TO ME: RTN. IDA WHITE YOUR EMERGENCY INFORMATION. THE CLUB OFFICIALS NEED YOUR PHYSICAL ADDRESS IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.
HAVE CAR CHARGER FOR YOUR CELL PHONE SO YOU MAY CHARGE IT OFF YOUR CAR BATTERY
Putting together an emergency kit is one of the best things that a person can do to protect themselves and property. A basic at home emergency kit should contain supplies for each person in your household to last a minimum of three days.<
Basic Emergency Supplies
- Water, Food (non-perishable packaged or canned food, canned sardines, and snacks), can opener, cooking tools, utensils and plates/bowls/cups
- Battery-powered radio (and a NOAA weather radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both, if possible) stock up on your batteries now
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- First aid kit, including peroxide, bandages, wipes, comb, toothbrush/paste
- Children's games, and activities (for young children)
- Whistle (to signal for help )
- Cell phone with chargers; a non-cordless telephone set, (Rotary II buddy list)
- Bleach
- medications
