Rotary Club of Saint-Thomas
The Nana Baby Home
The Rotary Club of St. Thomas adopted the Home in 1989 several months prior to the arrival of Hurricane Hugo. Rotary Club members renovated the Home's location behind the Lantern Laundry in Estate Mariendahl, near the quarry in Turpentine run. I have a photo of our Rotary Club members who completed painting the interior of the Home. After Hugo Rotary Club members repaired the roof and windows which had suffered damage. Louise Ali who founded the Home initiated a move from this location, which was owned by her brother, to her own house in Tutu, after a brief 2 year stay in Bolongo. Louise passed away on August 26th 2006, her funeral was attended by many Rotarians from our Club. Through the assistance of our Rotary Club and the commitment of Louise's family members, particularly her sister Beulah Wilson, the work of caring for children in need continues on to this day at the house. It is estimated that over 400 children have been cared for with many donations and contributions of time and energy by members of our Rotary Club. Nana Baby Children's Home Inc., is a 501 3 c non profit which is under contract to The Government of the Virgin Islands, Department of Human Services. It's Board of directors consist of John Foster, President, Rita Robles, secretary, Donna Liska, treasurer, Beulah Wilson, director, Adriane Dudley, director, Janet Millin Young, director Pia Brunt, director.
