What happened?

Our first evening meeting was wonderful.  We found a quiet and shady corner at the Westin's pool restaurant, grabbed something from the bar, and got to work!  Guest Oliver Wesselhoft told us about St. John's newest EDC company, and their determination to participate in community activities (music to our ears).  Oliver has recently moved home from the States, after attending Boston college and living in New York City.  Now he wants to get involved and help us out.  We have invited him to attend a few more meetings, to get a good idea of what Rotary is about and what we do on St. John, in the VI and in the world.

 

Our book fairy, Rotarian Alice, had more good news for us--she received a letter from President Alecia committing our club as the leader in this endeavor to bring tens of thousands of reading books to children in the territory this summer.  And our promise to bring the St. Croix and St. Thomas clubs into the circle as well.

 

Again St. John had a winning entry in the Butterfly Storybook contest, this time from Julius Sprauve school.  We will celebrate that with a party and copies of the book when it has been compiled.

 

President Alecia has been selected to be the Grand Marshal of St. John's carnival this year, that means she expects 100% Rotary member participation in j'ouvert!

 

As usual, a happy group--for all the books and for Alice's 'can-do' attitude, to be here and meet us, for our guests Oliver and Shereen (soon to be a member), for meeting at the water's edge on a beautiful day!
