What happened?

Darcaja Thomas let us know how important Interact is.  She is an 8th grader at JESS and is also involved in the Sisterhood Agenda.  Darcaja was happy her Interact club was able to do community projects last year, especially painting the helipad.  She was proud that they cleaned the beaches and wants to continue that project.  She also would like to do something with seniors on St. John and more to help at the clinic. 

We Lit up the Night with PPs Joan, Bruce and BJ, and Alice. Dulcey and Miles in attendance, raising $1000 for the St. John Cancer Fund and had a great time-- the cake was a big hit, and I mean BIG!  We were well represented at the JESS Gala, with images of Rotarian President Alecia presenting school supplies to our students.

More discussion about our vocational school, and PP Bruce suggested we send letters to the St. John business owners asking them to consider starting an apprenticeship program now, and not wait until we have the land and buildings.  Angela offered encouragement with information on the Workforce Reinvestment Act, which has $$ for youth training.  Darcaja chimed in that she and her friends want to be able to learn and get jobs in the summer. 

We were a happy group--happy for the new breezy and quiet venue, happy to continue our discussion on Rotary St. John's plans for our youth, happy to have our youth with us!
