What Happened?

It was brought to our attention by Rotary International that St. John only has one official Rotary Club, and that the Satellite Club had not been official since 2013.  Much consternation ensued, but the club voted to approve an application for a satellite club in the new year.  The District Governor's visit was helpful in this effort.  He explained that the Friday meetings are not sanctioned as club meetings and that technically a club can only have one meeting/location per week; but that the Friday lunches could be called "socials".  He also suggested that since we had been counting attendance at the Friday meetings all along, we could continue to count that attendance, but only as make-ups; and that 25% of the month's attendance requirement needs to be met at the official club meeting.  What a Pistarkle it was, but hopefully St. John will ultimately have two clubs. 

 

We have had wonderful speakers, Rotarian Frank, a physician who provides emergency medical training all over the world, including Zambia, and Friend of Rotary Tom, who explained that Innovative has invested $100 million in a new cable based network with nodes and a propane generator, but that phones using this EVO network won't work when the power goes off to the house!  His point was that Ham Radio operators can be counted on for communication over a large range of radio frequencies in an emergency.  St. John has a dozen or so members of their club, they meet monthly for... Ham and Eggs.
