Our coronation of Queen Alecia will take place June 24th at Moonlight Serenade on Great Cruz Bay Road at 6:30 pm. Please make an effort to come!
We are always happy to welcome Dr. Joe DeJames of the MKSCH clinic for an update. As part of the Schneider Regional Medical Center there are still challenges running the clinic. 40% of our residents are not insured, collections are a nightmare, and the cost of doing business is generally high in the VI. We have travelling nurses and staff and our two doctors are underpaid (or not paid for all the overtime they do!)
The new administration is talking about bringing St. Croix’ Juan Luis hospital under the same umbrella, but Dr. DeJames thinks this would be a bad idea. (we all agreed)
Much talk about medical evacuation was next, and AeroMed, a helicopter service is a new option for us to go to PR. MASA and SkyMed can work with them. We transport nine to ten people on the ambulance boat each month. If there were a BIG problem, we would call in everyone—Rescue, Fire, EMTs—everyone who can help would be asked to do so.
Despite all that, we were happy to be alive (and healthy!) and to have guests, and to have a house filled with toys and stuffed fuzzy friends waiting for Kids' Village for loving new homes.
