Here's the latest email from Claudia Verdant, our second scholar:

"Sorry I took so long to reply but I've been a little busy.   The first semester is coming along great and yes, I have been making friends.  I'm even a part of a "breakfast crew".  The "breakfast crew" is made up of the ten most interesting, hilarious, sensible students that I've met through the ROTC Program.  We always eat breakfast together Monday through Friday.

My roommate and I are getting along better.  We both found out that we have a lot in common.  We enjoy the same television shows, some of the same music, and we are both dedicated to our extracurricular activities.  She plays clarinet in the school's marching band and I'm on the Color Guard for ROTC.  Sometimes I think we may be too alike.  We both have the same laptops, the same comforter set and matching sheets. She calls it a coincidence.  I think it's just weird.

I truly feel out of my comfort zone when it comes to dealing with Virginia's weather. Right now it's 10:22am, 45degrees, windy, and very cloudy.  There is no sign of the sun anywhere.  I sure am missing the VI's 88degree weather.

GOOD NEWS!  I will not be enjoying a white Christmas because I'll be home for the holidays starting on December 11th.  I think it will be better if I attend a meeting while I'm home and accept the next installment of the scholarship.

Please send my regards to the entire Rotary Club.

Sincerely,

Claudia "cold in Virginia" Verdant
