Rotary Presents Checks to St John Rescue

We started at Flavors last year to raise money for St John Rescue and now just one year later they get the checks. A highlight of Flavors 06 was the check presentation by Rotary President John Fuller and Honorary Rotarian S. Donald Sussman to Recue Captain John Bowman.

Donald Sussman had challenged the club to raise $50,000, and if we did, he would donate the rest needed. Monies raised originally were to help buy a new rescue vehicle for Coral Bay but just after Flavors 05 raised about $22,000 the VI Legislature came up with funding for two new vehicles. Undaunted, Rotarians continued to raise money through orchid sales at Valentines, and beverage sales at the St John Blues Festival. Then Rotarian Bill Gross and his wife, Joan, sent our $31,095 over the top with their generous check and the challenge was met.

Accordingly, on November 18, 2006, Rescue Captain Bowman accepted checks from Rotary ($51,095) and Sussman ($45,474) to enable rescue to fully outfit their three vehicles and maintain the highest level of training and readiness. The Rotary Club of St John is proud to have been able to make this contribution to the St John community.

Flavors 06 kicked off a year of fundraising for The Love City Pan Dragons Youth Steel Orchestra, our college scholarships, and other community projects.
