When Starfish Market decided to replace some of their display coolers, Rotarian and Manager Nedra Ephraim asked Rotarian Contractor Dave Carlson if he could find good homes for the old ones. When Majors Daniel and Valerie Hazeldine, VI Coordinators for the Salvation Army spoke to the club in late-August, we were added to their Newsletter ... and the rest is history.

The St Thomas Salvation Army Newsletter noted their need for new refrigerators at their Pantry and Soup Kitchen and they were appealing for funds to buy new ones. One St Thomas Rotary Club had pledged dollars, but they were a long way short of their goal. Rotarian John Fuller put these needs and the coming availability of used ones from Starfish together. The Salvation Army visited Starfish and determined that one of the units would be perfect for their needs. Working out the logistics with them, they came with a pickup truck to get the unit on Saturday, November 16. President Joan persuaded her muscular son Preston Pollock to assist Dan and John in wrestling the unit into their truck. As of 1pm the refrigerator was safely secured and back on the barge to St Thomas where it will be put to service in their efforts to feed the needy. Thanks to all involved!

What this proves is the value of the network of Rotarians who can make the right thing happen. Rotarians from all vocations share information that enhances the lives of all Virgin Islanders. In Rotary, one can do more than any one alone.
