Seven Rotarians, spouses and friends gathered at Jumbie Beach again this April as our part of Earth Day Week beach cleanups sponsored by Friends of VI National Park. Outfitted with gloves, bags, and in several cases long-handled graspers they walked the road, the path and the beach picking up litter.

Team Captain Catherine Fahy, friend Marti Callies, John and Lesley Fuller, Doug  White, BJ Harris and Bob Schlesinger worked their way into the bush on both sides of the road, the path and the beach as far as possible gathering glass bottles, cans, and plastic. Some litterers had achieved remarkable range in their litter tossing, but the dry forest yielded to the workers more readily than last October's cleanup.

BJ returns victorious over trash!

The adventurous and agile group cleaned some almost inaccessible areas and retrieved two pairs of boots and a damaged "Swim Area" buoy, added to the two large trash bags of the bottles, cans, cigarette butts and plastic. We noted that the area was much cleaner than last October.  For some more photos of the trail and beach area see Secretary's Bob Photo Monday (4/26/10) blog, ttp://www.tropicalfocus.com/wordpress/index.php/?p=786
