St John's finest restaurants and caterers turned out to strut their stuff at Rotary's annual fundraiser, flavorsSaturday evening under the big tents at the Westin began with cocktails at 6:30 with hors d'oeuvres provided by Marketplace eateries along with wines from the island's three distributors.  Guests munched and drank as they wandered about checking out what the restaurants and caterers would be serving at 7:30 and planning their strategies for successful grazing.

Last year's People's Choice winner, KatiLady Events set the tone for decoration and looked to be a shoo-in for the award again this year.  But it was not to be as the Westin (with "home-court" advantage) won the most votes by the diners with Zozo's and newcomer Ted's Supper Club runners-up. All the food was appealing to the eye and the palate, and plentiful, showcasing St John's best chefs.  No one went away from flavors hungry this year, and the weather cooperated with only a brief sprinkle, thankfully.

We were pleased to have VI Governor John deJongh with us.  He mingled with the guests during the evening, his usual charming and personable self. Greg Kinslow's In The Sand Band entertained the crowd and provided lively dance music throughout the evening. A highlight for event Chair and Rotary President Joan Bermingham was her dance with Governor deJongh. Joan and John stopped long enough for club photographer Bob Schlesinger to snap the picture here.

The event yielded over $20,000 which will help Rotary fund the annual Javon Jade Alfred Memorial Scholarship ($12,500) and our pledge of $5,000 to K.A.T.S. this year.
