BIG KID PROJECT IN HAITI

Goat meat is a staple of the diet in Haiti and the indigenous small cabritas goat has long been the primary source of meat. Long time Rotarian, humanitarian and Rotary District Governor Nominee Guy Theodore, purchased three large, thoroughbred male goats to cross-breed with the female cabritas goats and begin production of larger offspring for higher meat production. Once pregnant, each female goat is given to a family for free. A kid from the first litter is returned to the stock as full payment for the pregnant female. All future progeny, now larger than the indigenous variety, provide a greater quantity of meat for the family on an on-going basis

There is a Constant need for more goats and it is hoped that funding for the project will enable RC Pignon to purchase a further 500 females. Each goat when purchased requires quarantine for de-worming and de-licing before they can be crossed with the thoroughbred males. The full cost for purchased and quarantine treatment is US$85.00.
