What if I told you that the spirit behind the United Nations (the global body tasked with promoting peace and security among nations) was deeply influenced by a group of everyday people who simply believed in serving others?
This is not just historical trivia. It is a reminder that service, when rooted in connection and compassion, can ripple outward into world-changing movements.
As a Rotarian, I embrace “Service Above Self.” Recently, I discovered a story that made me even prouder to wear my Rotary pin and be a part of this incredible organization… a story that reminded me how deeply service is woven into our shared human destiny.
In the festive atmosphere of a gala dinner, Rotary members raised glasses in toasts and kindled friendships in Lviv as they welcomed a group of Ukrainians to the International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians. The next day, the Ukrainian members showed visitors former Eastern Bloc aircraft at a military base that had become a general aviation field.
