bus shelter work party on Saturday 28 May

On Saturday 28 May 2011 we met at Altee’s truss plant to pick up the shelters and the spare parts to install two shelters and replace three vandalized windows.

We installed two shelters one of which is a net new site.  Shelter 12B was returned to near its former home by Payless Auto on Eastern Avenue.  That shelter was removed during the construction of Popeye’s restaurant.  We then installed a new shelter (13A) on the north side of Shedden just west of Dr. Roy’s drive.  Many thanks to PP Dave for getting our club  that location.  After that we replaced 3 broken windows on WBR shelters that had been destroyed by vandals.

We had ten Rotarians, a guest and, a toddler working on the project.  Thanks to Paul K, Steve M, PP Altee, Gilles L, Greg V, Naude D, PP Dave, Phil S, Carl B, and Marco C. We also had a guest, “Mike”, and I apologize for not figuring out whose guest he was.   Paul K’s daughter was also in attendance largely in the role of oversight and supervision.

Special thanks to PP Altee for the use of his equipment and premises without which we could not undertake these projects.   Thanks to PP Dave for his equipment, Naude for the liquid refreshments, Gilles for the flagstones, Todd for letting me use his truck, and all others for hard work and enthusiasm.

We’ll be having another work party in June as we’ve had vandalism out east with approximately four shelters with broken windows.
