And they're off!...
First out of the stalls was jockey Mario and his horse 'Peace Accord' - not much hope there with the front of the saddle facing the wrong end of the horse!
He is closely followed by jockey George who had great difficulty holding back the prancing of 'Forgive and Forget' (Neville). Then comes the favourite 'She's Cheeky' (Julie) with Paul in the saddle. At the last furlong it's 'Mount Orient' ridden by Dave - he could be disqualified for using hand before whip (not unlike cricket's leg before wicket!). On the final straight it's all over - jockey Neville is ahead by a head on 'Just in Place' (Roper). This very excitable and vocal horse fully deserves the victory!

That's how 45 Rotarians and their guests joined in a fun filled night at the races on October 30th. Horses were paraded by their jockeys; hats rivaled those at Ascot; winning selections were made and races run - without a horse in sight! The grassy show paddock gave everyone the chance to decide on the best horses and jockeys - their teeth, fetlocks, personality and style were all studied carefully for a hint as to the winner of each race...it seldom helped!! Lucky winners at the end of the evening were Ravi - overall race winner; Roper - best horse; Dave - best jockey and Kerry Pratt best hat. The evening also raised $660 in donations for the disaster fund. Well done to all!
