Now's the time to give to Rotary Foundation...what can your contribution do?
Over the last 2 weeks we have been well informed about Rotary Foundation, what it is for and how we can help. PP Peter gave a talk about his recent visit to India as part of a polio plus immunisation team...and Chris Evans followed that, last Tuesday, with a reminder of all the good work that is made possible by Rotary Foundation. Your contribution to the Foundation is badly needed and well used. Every penny that you give is used to benefit people and places that need support. The Foundation works by investing your contributions for three years which allows it to pay for the administration of the fund without touching the money you give. Then it is released - every penny - to be used towards projects like it's flagship - Polio Plus. PP Peter told us that the effort is being concentrated on Type 1 Polio which is highly contagious and very crippling - there are 2 provinces in India where this is still a problem. Chandigarh, where his help was utilised, was divided up using a grid system and each was allocated a team of Rotarians. The area that PP Peter worked in was a 5x5 km square slum which contained approximately 70,000 people. The Rotarians went door to door to identify any child who had not been immunised - each had a mark on their right hand if they had been. They also worked against those who tried to persuade people that it was dangerous to be immunised - he praised the persistence of the doctors who were able to persuade tham otherwise. Now is the time to commit your US$1000 to Rotary Foundation and be part of a great human victory which will be recorded by history - a world without Polio.
