As part of our efforts to assist Haiti this coming Rotary year, President Elect Paul would like to start an initiative to have every member of Rotary Central sponsor a goat for a family in Haiti, and to achieve this by July 7th...

Sponsoring a goat allows this small local goat to be bred with another larger species and the resultant 'big kid' is a huge economic benefit for a Haitian family in terms of milk, meat, resale value etc.

As we heard at the district conference in St Croix, the worsening situation in Haiti is crying out for a response from our district, internationally and beyond Rotary. One of the ways that we can help is via the goat initiative which was presented in St Croix at the Haiti project roundtable.

After last night's meeting I got an incredible response from rotarians: 25 Rotary Central club members have already signed up to be a member of the 'goats for Haiti club' (ok...yes IPresident Elect Paul made that up!), or "goatee club" for short!

Let's aim to have every member sponsor a goat. We have 62 members so only 37 to go!

If we achieve this, it will a great way to start the year and when the district governor arrives on July 12th, we can celebrate the achievement and remind him why Rotary Central continues to be one of the most impressive clubs in district 7020!

The cost to sponsor a goat is a one time commitment of US$85.00 to buy a goat for a poverty striken family. Your commitment would be required by Tuesday July 7th.

1 member has already asked if they can become "multiple" sustaining member of the "goatee" club by sponsoring more than 1 goat....of course the answer is YES!

If you have not given your name to President Elect Paul yet, he hopes you will participate!
