Rotary Central has provided volunteer support of the Junior Achievement Programme, Business Ethics. Six Volunteers/Rotarians recently donated an hour a week for 7 weeks to the Cayman Islands Further Education Center and presented the Business Ethics Programme to year 12 students. The programme delivers ethical decision making through hands-on classroom activities.

JA Business Ethics fosters students’ ethical decision-making as they prepare to enter the workforce and take part in the global marketplace. Students recognize and analyze theory, terminology, and concepts; apply skills; and evaluate ethical decision-making in the classroom setting. Volunteers lend their life and business experiences to the concepts taught in the programme through descriptive one on one discussions.

Rotarian PP Mario Ebanks, who heads up the Ethics Committee of the Club under the auspices of the Vocational Service Director Larry Tibbetts, said “One of the hallmarks of Rotary is the 4-Way Test, which provides a blueprint or a “golden rule” for doing business and making ethical decisions in our daily lives. In addition, one of the Objects of Rotary is to encourage high ethical standards in business and professions. In this connection, a programme such as Business Ethics for high school students, offered through Junior Achievement worldwide is a natural fit to the DNA of Rotarians. Rotary Central and our five (5) fine volunteers Rtn. Len Layman Rotary Central, Rtn. Dr. Naude Dryer Rotary Central, Rtn. Paul Arbo Rotary Central, Rtn. David Kirkaldy Rotary Grand Cayman and Mike Garofalo of BDO who works with Rtn. Paul Arbo were delighted to each spend 7 weeks with the students at CIFEC teaching them many theoretical and practical challenges and solutions relating to Ethics. We trust that this will have a longterm impact on the life of these young people, and result in a better community and economy for these Islands”.
