Edward Polio Central "Eddie" brings smiles and awareness to the Cayman Islands.
In an effort to raise awareness of polio and fund-raising for polio eradication, the Rotary Central Cayman Islands has introduced a charming new ambassador: Edward Polio Central alias “Eddie”. Eddie is from Guernsey and has quickly become a valued figure in the community, embarking on many adventures that have captivated the hearts and minds of many.
Eddie’s trip began with a visit to the picturesque Cayman Brac, where he enjoyed the natural beauty of the island and met locals. His next stop was the office of Cayman Airways, where he had a unique opportunity to sit in the cockpit and take a memorable photo. This moment of happiness was shared on a large scale, bringing smiles to many faces. After his hectic visit to the Brac, Eddie had to go “where the magic happens”. Eddie spent a day enjoying the enviable behind-the-scenes experience of our national airline, Cayman Airways.

Eddie’s adventures don’t end there. He helps Rotarians sell tickets for the Music Extravaganza, a major fundraising event. His presence and enthusiasm helped capture the interest of people buying tickets. Eddie also made a special appearance at the Charter and Foundation gala, where he joined members and guests to spread the joy and raise awareness of Rotary’s mission.
One of Eddie’s most exciting outings was a fun bowling night for World Polio Day, hosted by the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise. He joined Rotary members and the community for an evening of strikes and sparks, fostering camaraderie and highlighting the importance of polio eradication. Eddie also attended our diabetes screening event, where he was measured in height and confirmed to be chubby and cuddly!
Eddie's adventures sparked conversations throughout the community about the importance of eradicating polio. His engaging presence brought Rotary's primary goal to the forefront of people's minds, reminding everyone of the critical need to continue the fight against this debilitating disease.
Eddie has become a local celebrity, not just among Rotary clubs in the Cayman Islands but also within the broader community. His adventures have inspired many to learn more about polio and support Rotary's efforts to eradicate it. Through his charming and playful nature, Eddie has made a significant impact, proving that even a small bear can make a big difference in the world.

As Eddie continues his journey, he remains a symbol of hope and determination, reminding us all of the power of community and the importance of working together to achieve a polio-free world.
