Rotary Central's Diabetes screening event at Foster's Airport Supermarket on November 19, 2011 was a great success! Despite being an unscheduled activity for the Club, we identified the need to acknowledge Diabetes Awareness during the month of November. Five Rotarians zealously volunteered their time to assist with the screening activities between 10am-2pm. Three HSA nurses and one General Practitioner also volunteered their time and shared their medical expertise.

A total of 101 were screened during the event. One patron was newly diagnosed, but a significant amount of uncontrolled and non-compliant diabetics were identified. Two of the latter were identified to be given a new glucometer. This Tuesday, the very grateful two are scheduled to meet with Rot. Zelta who will educate them on the use and maintenance of the machines.

A very special thank you to Rot. Colin Fawkes for being so focused as you tediously worked, Rot Steve Moore who so assertively retrieved additional table, chairs and gave us power; the father-daughter tag team of PP Neville and Pres Fiona, who were the "registrars" and scribes as they also measured and weighed. Thanks to PP Dave and last but not least was 12 year old Kimberly who has volunteer for the third time to assist with registering those who were experiencing reading/visual problems.
