Able to Play is a project which was pioneered by Russell Linford, the General Manager of Build Cayman Limited. It is a playground designed for children with special needs and is located at the Lighthouse school
Russell has secured a large portion of the funding from the very well known and hugely popular Cardboard Boat Race which has become an annual event on the Pirates Week Festival Calendar in the Cayman Islands. The project recently came to the attention of the Rotary Central Club who has pledged their support as part of their ongoing involvement in community projects which focus on people with special needs. Once the initial design and planning approval had been finalized, work on the first phase of the project commenced. Rotary members have assisted Russell and his team with the first phase of the building project by providing manpower and heavy equipment required for the initial site preparation and the erection of the concrete posts that will hold the canopy roof. The groundwork will be complete by mid January 2010 and Rotary will be assisting once again with the erection of the actual canopy which consists of metal frames and canvass covers.

The second phase of the project will continue later in 2010 and will involve special needs equipment designed for children in their wheelchairs and an artificial turf. Rotary Central is proud to be associated with this very worthy cause. Any persons wishing to make a donation to the playground project is asked to contact Naude Dreyer at the Rotary Central Club telephone 925 6422
