Committee Description & Terms of Reference
Purpose
The Service Projects Committee develops and implements educational, humanitarian, and vocational projects that address the needs of the local community and, where appropriate, communities abroad. It puts Rotary's motto of Service Above Self into action by leading hands-on projects that make a measurable difference.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess community needs and design projects that respond to them effectively.
- Plan, organise, and execute the club's service projects throughout the year.
- Engage all club members in meaningful, hands-on service.
- Measure and report the impact of projects to the club and Board.
- Pursue partnerships and, where suitable, Rotary Foundation grant support for larger projects.
- Ensure projects are sustainable and aligned with the club's strategic goals.
Typical Activities
- Coordinating volunteers, logistics, and budgets for each project.
- Partnering with local organisations, schools, and charities.
- Documenting outcomes and beneficiary impact for reporting and public image.
- Identifying signature annual projects that build the club's identity.
Composition
Led by the Service Projects Chair/Director (Community Service), supported by project leads and volunteers. The Chair serves on the Board and coordinates with the Foundation, International Service, Vocational Service, and Public Image committees.
Coordination & Reporting
- Board of Directors: seeks approval and reports on project plans and outcomes.
- Foundation Committee: coordinates grant-funded projects.
- International & Vocational Service: aligns cross-avenue projects.
- Public Image Committee: publicises projects and impact.
