Vocational Service II

Following on from my note in last week's edition, the other two areas of focus for vocational service this year are job placements and literacy. As I announced last week, we have now developed a database and form to enable members to provide us with details of the extent to which they can particpate in job placement programs in conjunction with the local schools. The aim is to both encourage menbers to get involved and to provide the careers staff at the schools with one point of contact for the Club in this area. The form and database have been designed by Rotarian Bill Hrudey and I appreciate the effort that he has put in to this. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Whether or not you already offer job placements to students, it would be of assistance to us if you could complete the form. If you do not already offer places to students, then please consider doing so. It can be on your terms and does not have to be unduly onerous. Students can gain a great deal from the experience of being in a business environment. Our literacy project this year involves liaising with other service clubs and schools to identify gaps in current literacy projects and where possible, to develop a program to meet that need.
