Jail & Bail - Live on Spotlight

Invited by Radio/ TV personality Cromwell Smith aka Enju En Ka, Rotarian Henry Creque of the Rotary Club of Tortola gave the new fundraiser "Jail & Bail" a great jump start. He explained that the idea is to arrest 6 notable Citizens of the British Virgin Islands for the good things they have done here. They are taken in front of His Worship Justice Gerard Farara, QC, who will listen to the bailiff reading out all the good deeds they have done and the Judge will request $2,000.00 bail for each of them, to enable them to continue their great work. As soon as their friends and supporters pledged enough to reach $2,000.00 the "jailbird" will be released.
The persons, who will be arrested and why are: Retired Teacher Adorothy Turnbull for being a wonderful educator to so many of our young people - including Cromwell & Henry!
Dr. Robin Tattersall, who came to the BVI in 1965, was the first locally based surgeon, saved many lives and delivered countless healthy babies.
Annie Gardner, who cannot even start guessing how many children she has been teaching how to swim. Following the Tsunami in December 2004 she initiated the project "Hands across the Ocean" in connection with the Rotary Clubs and the BVI Red Cross. Through the sales of bumper stickers, sponsored by local businesses and other donation over $44,000.00 were raised. For this our Club awarded her the prestigious Paul-Harris-Fellowship.
Merritt Herbert, Managing Director of AM Radio Station ZBVI, was not only one of our famous cricketers, but his Radio Station was the first local station, keeping us informed every day and - to use one of their famous slogans - "even Hugo admits that this is true". Of course we are referring to the devastating hurricane HUGO in September 1989, as ZBVI never went of the air and kept the people in touch on their battery-operated radios, as we were without electricity, faxes and had only very limited telephones for many days. Cell phones were very rare and very expensive then.
Dr. Ronald McAnaney, a long time resident of the BVI was instrumental in starting the National AIDS Program and setting up the HIV-AIDS Foundation, who's Chairman he is. He has arranged medical and financial help for many patients in strictest confidence. He is always one of the partners on the TV Talk Show "Let's talk about Sex" hosted by Craig Lake, aka DJ Push Pop; our sixth "jailbird". Craig surely has a great positive impact on our youth. In his talk show "Let's talk about Sex" he always invites young and very young guests. Him still being a youngster himself, his guests are only to ready to listen to his advice. He has very positively influenced the life of our young people. Of course he has staged so many other events like the popular concerts "Artists against AIDS", "Top 7 at 7 Awards" and much more.
Court will be called to order this Friday (15th July) at 6:30 at the Governor's Residence. Admission to court is only $25.00 per person, which will include snacks and drinks and of course fun galore. Tickets are for sale from Rotarians Henry Creque, Joyce Murraine @ Scotia Bank, Lorna Smith and Astrid C. Wenzke. All funds raised will go towards Youth Empowerment and Crime Prevention Projects.
