The Virgin Affair
The Rotary Club of Tortola raised $128,000 at its annual fund raiser dubbed this year as the Virgin Affair dinner and auction held for the first time in Virgin Gorda on Saturday, February 27, at Bitter End, Tradewinds Restaurant.
President of the Rotary Club of Tortola Leroy Moses said that the Club is grateful to all the persons and businesses who supported the event and made it possible to raise such an impressive sum for charities in the BVI.
"I was moved and immensely pleased by the level of generosity we saw during the weeks leading up to the Grand Affair and especially on the evening itself," Mr. Moses said. "It demonstrates that the values of charity and good will remain alive and well in the BVI."
The beneficiaries of the 2010 Virgin Affair are Kids and the Sea, Elderly Home on Virgin Gorda, Haiti Rebuilding/Replenishing of the Diaster Fund, Youth Development Programmes. In addition to the named beneficiaries, funds are used towards other Rotary causes and donations to persons in need.
The Virgin Affair 2010 was co-chaired by Rotarians Lorna Smith and Gerard Farara. Lorna said that the atmosphere of the evening was magical, the food was delicious and beautifully presented and guests all enjoyed themselves. The bar of the Grand Affair has definitely been raised in 2010 as a result of the combined efforts of the BVI community, Rotarians, Bitter End Yacht Club staff and friends of the Rotary Club of Tortola. Last Saturday's Virgin Affair was without a doubt one of the most memorable evenings experienced in the BVI and we look forward to repeating this next year.
The dinner showcased the talents of six leading chefs of the BVI, Giorgio Paradisi - Giorgio's Table, Wilford Stoutt - Maria's By The Sea, Evan Lee - Bitter End Resort, Hemant Dadlani - Rosewood Little Dix Bay, Jermaine "Monk" George - Biras Creek Resort and Lisa Sellars - Peter Island Resort.
Among the auction prizes were dinner for ten at Government House, dinner for 10 aboard BVI flagged MY Resolute, Tiffany's Classic Gold Bracelet. The top prize of the night was experience Sir Richard Branson's Far Flung Retreats, which went for a bid of $30,000.
