The Rotary Clubs in the British Virgin Islands are serving more people than ever before who seek the basic necessities of life in its communities - food, shelter, warmth after the catastrophic Hurricane Irma.
Distribution of food and other supplies at all public shelters continues.
The organization's aim is to move swiftly to provide relief ensuring not to leave out any Hurricane Survivor in need. District Governor Elect Delma Maduro states that more relief supplies are on its way from Puerto Rico arriving this Saturday with a further two shipments by air possibly as early as today. Relief is being further coordinated by Rotarian Trefor Grant on our sister island Virgin Gorda.
It's noted that tarpaulins are now scarce on island and in Puerto Rico. However, arrangements are being made to get some to the BVI swiftly.
Pussers is assisting with meals and there will be an increase in the production of meals to about 1,000 today. Please note that cooking will start at Pussers in Soper's Hole, West End with effect from today.
More update will be provided about our efforts in obtaining a solar operated desalination plant that produces 4,000 galllons of water a day through a generous donor. The Rotary Clubs in the BVI will continue its efforts with strong support from the international body of Rotary. Local efforts are being coordinated, overseen and supported by Response Coordinator Chair Lorna Smith, District Governor Elect Delma Maduro, Assistant Governor Elvis "Juggy" Harrigan, Presidents of the BVI Rotary Clubs, Past Presidents and Assistant Governors, family of Rotarians and Rotaractors.
