The second local Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) training held on September 26-27 at the HLSCC Campus on Tortola was again another hugh success.  The training was co ordinated by PP Mary Finley-Jones (Photo by Yvonne Crabbe)

 

The training was facilitated by our  localDLs - AG Vance Lewis and Rtn. Yvonne Crabbe- Road Town Club; Rtn. Nigel Bailey and PP Mary Finley- Tortola Club; and DGE Diana White, Rtns. Roger White and Don Chandler of St. Thomas, and Chairman of the Board for RLI, Tim Schuler from USA.

 

A total of 29 participants were involved in various aspects of the three course training which included:

 

Course 1:  Leadership.  To begin thinking about the characteristics of leadership, how leadership is exerted, what motivates people in a voluntary organization and how the participants might develop their own personal leadership style.  There were 6 Rotarians completing Part 1 (Floris Lettsome-Lewis Road Town Club; Richard Arthur Sunrise Club; Abbi Christopher Tortola Club, Cate Stephenson Tortola Club; and the remaining 3 from San Juan).

 

Course 2:  Goals and Objectives.  To explore the importance of goal setting in leadership and the mechanisms for achieving goals.  15 completed Part 2, (SAA Richard Arthur-Sunrise Club; IPP Abbi Christopher-Rotaract Club; Charles Crane-Road Town Club; Lorna Smith, Stanley Gordon, Cate Stephenson-Tortola Club; and the remaining 9 were from San Juan)

 

Course 3:  Creative Service.  To explore the concept of service in Rotary and the type of service activities that will strengthen and energize Rotary.

 

We had 5 complete Part 3 thus completing the program (Rtn. Geraldeen Johnson, PPs Jeffrey Potter and Janice Rymer- Road Town Club,  and Rtns. Astrid Wenzke and Valerie Thomas-Tortola Club.

 

We now have 6 new Discussion Leaders, 4 from Tortola (PP Delma Maduro, AGE Ron Potter, PP Lloyd Black, Tortola Club, and PPStephanieBenn-RoadTown Club), 1 from St. Croix (PDG Rupert Ross) and 1 from Puerto Rico (DGE John Richardson).

 

The next RLI training will be held in Jamaica in November 2009 and St. Thomas January 2010.
