In February the Club received word from Haiti that all five of its 400-gallon water storage tanks have been installed and are providing drinking water for the Good Samaritan School in La Hatte, Haiti.

The club purchased the water tanks in late 2008. Rotarian Stephen Cooper said that it is gratifying to know that the tanks have been installed and are now being put to use to ensure clean, fresh water for the children of La Hatte. Prior to the installation of the tanks the main water supply was a muddy pond that was also used for bathing and washing clothes.

Cooper said that the project was carried out in partnership with the Rotary Club of Les Cayes, in Haiti, which paid for a sixth tank and helped supervise installation of the project. "We are immensely grateful to the Rotary Club of La Cayes, which has provided on-the-ground support to ensure that the tanks are being used in the way we intended. These Rotarians stuck with this project even in the face of calamities including the series of hurricanes that struck Haiti in 2008."

The water tanks are part of the Rotary Club of Tortola's ongoing commitment to assist the La Hatte school. In 2008 the Club sent funds to pay the school's teachers during this school year and in December the Club facilitated the donation of used outboard engines for the community's fishermen. The Club is now embarking on a project to raise funds for the construction of a permanent school building in La Hatte.

La Hatte is located on Ile a Vache, a small island off the southern coast of Haiti.
