Part of the proceeds raised at the Grand Affair was presented to the first recipient.  Chairman Gerry Farara told the club at its weekly luncheon "I am very pleased to say that today; the Rotary Club of Tortola will be presenting the H.O. Creque Educational Trust with the impressive sum of $30,000.00 - proceeds from past Grand Affairs.  We all know that education is the key to opening doors to the future, and the Rotary Club of Tortola is very pleased to contribute to a scholarship fund which will help open doors to young people in the British Virgin Islands".

Henry O. Creque was an avid reader gifted in many ways.  He came from the core of the British Virgin Islands and was one of the BVIs giants.  He was the first elected speaker of the legislative council in 1967.

The Henry Osmond Creque Educational Trust is named in honour of a founding member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Tortola, whose vision was for a charitable trust that would promote the advancement of education of citizens and residents of the British Virgin Islands. The Trust is governed by three Trustees, Past President Michael Thomas, Past Acting District Governor Audley Maduro and Past Acting District Governor Gerry Farara, who is the chairman.

The Trust launched its first partial scholarship a few months ago in the amount of $6,000.00.  Applications have been submitted to the newspapers so that citizens and residents have the opportunity to apply.  In applying for this scholarship applicants must submit an essay from a range of topics crafted from the committee.

In selecting a candidate for the scholarship, the committee will consider the need, the area of study and the potential contribution to the BVI on the whole in the development of the economy.
