The Club's Treasurer, Rotarian Julien Johnson, informed the members during the Club's weekly luncheon at The Moorings on February 3rd, 2011 that out of the $15, 000, $8,150 were spent on 6 hospital beds and 6 wheel chairs for the Elderly Home.
Mrs. Loraine Williams, Division Head of Social Development Department, Virgin Gorda thanked the Rotary Club of Tortola for its generous donation. She said that although the Virgin Gorda Elderly Home is a small one, it is the only 24 hour a day residential facility for the aged in Virgin Gorda for the past three decades.
Mrs. Williams went on further to state that it is through kind donations of civic organizations such as the Rotary Club of Tortola that the Virgin Gorda Elderly Home can continue to be a place where our elderly can age in comfort and security. She also stated that the Home is being run by the BVI Government and comes under the umbrella of the services provided by the Social Development Department.
