Police Commissioner Paul Farquharson honoured by the Rotary Clubs of the Bahamas with Paul Harris Fellow, Thursday August 16th.
The distinguished award is named in honour of Rotary International's founder, Paul Harris and is awarded to individuals considered to have made exceptional contributions to their communities. It is among the highest of Rotary's recognitions for service, and is awarded worldwide to persons considered to best exemplify the organisation's motto: "Service Above Self".
Said Farquharson, "I always attempt to subscribe to the philosphy that I am able to touch a life, to lend a helping hand, lift up the down trodden, give hope to the hopeless or encourage someone by word or deed, then my life and service would have been worth it all."
Harris, a Chicago based lawyer, founded Rotary back in February of 1905. Today Rotary is known throughout the world for its dedication to service and international goodwill; and today Police Commissioner Paul Farqhuarson joins thousands in our global community who have been honoured in this way, for their outstanding meritorious service.
On an evening marked by the high praise, respect and admiration expressed by so many for Commissioner Farquharson, the honouree was feted to great food by his own Royal Bahamas Police Force cooking experts and music by the Force's Pop Band.
The evening was well attended and well supported by Bahamas Rotarians. They along with other invited guests were apprised of the great work achieved by Rotary around the world by International Diretcor Barry Rassin. Rassin highlighted for the group, the important funding that the Rotary Foundation affords its international network for humanity.
By the end of the evening, attendees fully appreciated just how much "Rotary Shares." A great start to the new Rotary year.
