Dr. Keith Major spoke to the club on the topic "The Missing Ingredient that caused the recession, without which recovery is stalled.

According to Dr. Major, "There are many reasons being given for the recession we are in however, he believes that the lack of discipline in our lives is one of the primary causes. Almost every country in the world has been affected by this recession including the Bahamas. People are continually spending and creating larger debt for themselves with no regard for honoring commitments. Consumerism is widespread with people buying things they really don't need. Individuals must become more discipline with their spending. We cannot be blinded by our current greed that we fail to heed the warnings of our leaders to be cautious about the future. Bahamians need a dose of reality and must make changes no matter how tough it may be. We must acknowledge the severity of the crisis, curb our spending, reduce our debt, do what it takes to keep our jobs and create motivation for education by removing the lure of high paying jobs from the uneducated. With discipline we will have a new Bahamas; one that can survive the ups and downs of future economic cycles."
