Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise along with Rotaract Club of Nassau Sunset and Rotaract Club of East Nassau support Commonwealth Brewery Limited in its 10th annual beach clean-up
For the tenth year, Commonwealth Brewery Limited (CBL) hosted its Barefoot Beach Clean Up. This year, CBL partnered with volunteers of the Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise, the Rotary Club of East Nassau and of the Rotaract Club of Nassau Sunset joined forces with volunteers of the CBL cares committee and focused their attention on the popular grounds of the Western Esplanade Beach. “Each clean-up is executed in accordance to the standards and philosophy that even if your local beach is cleaned regularly by the city, beaches can always use an extra once over,” said Densil Deveaux, Senior Wine and Spirits Portfolio Manager at CBL. “Not only do beach clean-ups have a positive impact on the costal landscape, they help raise awareness for environmental issues affecting our shores and coastlines.” For the Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise, this clean-up activity is just one of many activities designed to preserve the environment and change the mindset of Bahamians. “We have worked with CBL on previous projects geared towards environmental awareness and protection, so we were happy to partner on a project that showcases our collective concern for the cleanliness of our shorelines.” said Kemie Jones, Director and Community Services Committee Chair for Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise. "During the clean-up, we were pleased to see beachgoers actually stop what they are doing and pick up a can or bottle. It is that change in behaviour that we are trying to inspire through our activities." Given the current health climate and social regulations, organizers of the clean-up were careful to limit the number of volunteers to ensure that all safety protocols were met.
