As part of Rotary’s ongoing commitment to support literacy, globally as well as in The Bahamas, the Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise has launched an ambitious project to nourish both the body and mind of 250 persons in the community each month.

In conjunction with Lend-a-Hand Bahamas, the initial project was launched on 2 September 2021 at the historic East Street Gospel Chapel in New Providence. To ensure the adherence of COVID-19 health and safety protocols, the event was organized in a “drive through” manner where local residents from the Bain/Grant’s Town and Mason’s Addition were able to collect a nourishing meal and reading literature. Select residents also received vouchers to aid in the purchase of back-to-school supplies as well as educational toys.

In total, the project was able to feed and supply literary materials to over 250 residents in a single day. The event which is planned as a monthly activity for the entire Rotary year from July 2021 to June 2022, will continue to both feed and provide much needed literacy support to communities throughout New Providence.
