A press conference was held at The Hub to receive a five hundred dollars ($500.00) donation towards the club's Reading Fair and our literacy projects and goals. The proceeds were donated from the Yellowbird & Choucoune mixed arts, visual & performing event focused on the Haitian poem Choucoune and then as a song, Yellow Bird. The event traced the journey of a poem and then song entitled Choucoune, which was written by the 19th century Haitian poet Oswald Durand, inspired by his own lost love. The music was composed 10 years later by Haitian American Michel Monton Mauleart. In the twentieth century this song travelled to the United States where American arranger Norm Luboff rewrote and abbreviated the song into an English language calyso-styled pop song, with with the same popular music. It soon became a top 40 hit and began to travel around the world where it has been recorded by countless musical artists and has been claimed as a traditional song by several Caribbean nations.
