Disasters around the World

Every corner of the world is impacted by disaster at one time or another. Whether it the fires of San Francisco, drought in Australia, floods in Mexico, tornadoes in Florida or in our own back yard i.e. hurricanes - as Rotarians, we will be called upon to assist. Rotarians in the affected areas usually act as 1st responders to disaster and often form very valuable partnerships with other agencies such as the Red Cross and N.E.M.A. However, we must now how we should get involved. Rotarians can get involved by participating in the Donor Advised Fund (D.A.F.). It costs $20,000 to open the donor account but you have the ability to tell Rotary how you want the money to be spent. D.R.A.G.G. is also putting together a support structure for communicating disaster around the world. On December 5 & 6, 2008 the Ready Conference will be held in Nassau. Rotarians are asked to support the event. International President D.K.Lee is asking all Rotarians to do their part to reduce child mortality. Rotarians can make a real impact upon the lives of children around the world.
