The importance of reading was clearly underscored through Rose's presentation on the International Field Studies (IFS) "Bahamas Project". (Rose          Blanchard is presented with Rotary token by Larry Strachan)

Rose Blanchard, an  IFS representative, is a proud member and a former school teacher from Ohio.  She used her precious time to demonstrate the startling impact of various book-sourcing projects and the on-going benefits.  Since its inception, IFS's Bahamas Project, through the delivery of thousands of books has been able to satisfy the reading appetite of many children in various Bahamian island communities.  To date, Andros and Spanish Wells, Eleuthera are among the islands that have benefited.

IFS is a public, non-profit scientific and educational organization that was established in 1970. The home office is located in Nelsonville, Ohio with additional facilities in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and a field station in Andros Island, Bahamas.

IFS maintains the philosophy of promoting educational and scientific activities through direct field studies in all aspects of the operation. Programs are geared toward high school and college students seeking course credit, although they do host a handful of researchers throughout the year.
