Due to the growing demand of health needs of residents of the Bahamas, the Hon. Dr. Hubert A. Minnis said that it is time for an upgraded public health facility as the current site has proven to be inadequate. Before a new hospital can be constructed, however, he pointed out that there are some important factors that must be considered such as accessibility, a 30-year sustainable plan, proximity to population centers, socio-politics, susceptibility to flooding, cost and use of new technical equipment and ample bedding. The Public Hospital Authority and a consultant firm are armed with the task of managing the process of transforming the current facility. It is his hope that the end result will reveal improvements in the areas of patient management, preventative, pediatric and post-acute care.
