The Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise was chartered on May 8, 2001. The members meet every Thursday morning at 7:00AM for breakfast at the British Colonial Hilton hotel, Down Town, Nassau, The Bahamas. Made up of dynamic men and women of varying professions, this small club has made a significant contribution in the name of Rotary to its community since its inception. Very early, it initiated a spaying and neutering programme of stray dogs in habiting New Providence. That programme has been successfully carried on by The Bahamas Humane Society. The club's signature project for which it won a literacy award is the annual Reading Fair held every March. Over 700 underprivileged students from public schools are entertained and fed for one day, read stories and given bags with school supplies. As a part of this initiative, there is also a book project and books and computers are donated to schools. Other projects include work at local orphanages, old folks' homes, reform schools and hospitals. The club has chartered two Interact Clubs at local high schools and each club has done significant work in their school and community. The club has won District 7020's highest award for service in consecutive years. As at September 24, 2009, the club had 51 members.
